Who can use Catch-a-Ride?
Adult residents of Johnson County who cannot drive and do not have another means of transportation can access the services of Catch-a-Ride. Riders must be able to transfer into and out of a car.
Where can I go?
Catch-a-Ride volunteer drivers take people to medical appointments, grocery shopping, social service appointments, banking and beauty shop appointments, as well as social, civic or religious events. Most destinations are within Johnson County. Out of county trips are scheduled for medical appointment destinations.
Who are your drivers?
Volunteer drivers meet the following requirements:
• at least 25 years of age or older
• valid drivers license
• good driving record
• auto insurance
Criminal history checks and drivers license records checks are conducted on all drivers. Drivers are offered the opportunity to attend a driver training course to keep current on safe driving techniques.
Will the driver help me from my house to the car?
Our volunteer drivers provide a level of personal service that many people need to be able to leave their homes. The drivers will assist people to their car and carry groceries or packages.
How much does it cost to use Catch-a-Ride?
Johnson County provides basic funding for the Catch-a-Ride program. Riders are asked to make donations. The suggested donation is $3 per one-way trip. No one will be denied service because they cannot afford to make a donation.
