Established in 1993, the weekly group meeting focuses on problem solving, information sharing, and self-advocacy. The group is co-sponsored by HS/A, Johnson County Mental Health, and The Dream Works.

What are the goals of the Support Group for People with a disability?

The Support Group for People with a Disability has four main goals:

When and where does the support group meet?

The group meets from 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. every Wednesday, in Room 103 of the Mill Creek Center at the corner of Park and Water in Olathe. The address is 311 E. Park, Olathe KS 66061.

What kinds of disabilities are represented by the people who attend?

All types! The group includes individuals with back problems and head injuries, people who use wheelchairs, and those who are blind—just to name a few.

Is there a membership fee for belonging to the support group?

There is no charge for attending these weekly meetings.

How many people usually attend support group meeting?

The group averages 18 participants. Attendees range in age from 25 to 79. Everyone is welcome.

Is transportation available?

Limited transportation assistance is available. Contact Jim Swain at (913) 715-8912 to find out whether transportation is available in your area.
